I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that Van’s Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman is planning something big this year. The tracklisting for the annual Warped Tour compilation has been released, and this year’s edition features a very prominent artist not yet announced on the tour: Blink 182. Not only are they the first track (with their song “The Rock Show”) on the first disc, but the cover of the album features a white-washed version of a photograph of bassist/vocalist Mark Hoppus and drummer Travis Barker playing the 1999 Van’s Warped tour.
A quick look at past warped tour lineups compared with the compilation album will show that it’s very rare that the album features a band not appearing on the tour that year. Does that mean Blink 182 may be showing up on the 2010 tour unannounced?
During an interview with barebonesmusic.com, Kevin Lyman namedropped the band and said, “Blink 182, they’re always welcome to come back. Last year . . . right until the last minute, they were supposed to play one of the shows. It just didn’t come together. They should come back.”
So all we know is that Blink 182 have an open invitation to play on one of the most prestigious punk festivals ever, and have appeared on the compilation album. Can we count on seeing them there? Who knows. But it’d be sweet.
As most of you probably know, Blink 182 went on an “indefinite hiatus” in 2005 – due to internal disagreements – and the members later formed Angels & Airwaves and +44. The band announced their reunion in February of 2009, during the Grammy Awards
Blink 182 have been considered one of the most influental bands on modern pop-rock. You can view the tracklisting for the 2010 Warped Tour album here, and the original photo of Blink 182 on the 1999 tour here. I embedded the interview with Kevin Lyman below.
